I am a self-taught artist living and working in London. I work mainly in oil and mixed media to produce landscapes which express the ways we live with the natural world. I explore different subject matter and experiment with different media but my work always revolves around my interests in nature and history.
I’ve been influenced by artists such as Van Gogh, David Bomberg and Gustav Klimt whose paintings emphasise bold colours and exaggerated shapes over true visual representation. I work in this tradition as a way of reducing the randomness of nature into forms or shapes that become something appreciated in their own right.
The Mediterranean is my main source of inspiration because its rural landscapes offer dramatic geographical features and a vivid palette of colours from which I can draw a variety of artistic ideas. I’ve visited various regions in Southern France, Spain and Italy throughout my life and I’ve always been excited by the drama of its nature which is so different to my surroundings in my native south-east England.
